NEPOMAK

History of NEPOMAK

About NEPOMAK

NEPOMAK stands for Neolaia Pankosmia Omospondia Apodhimon Kyprion. In English, this would roughly be translated as the World Organisation for Young Overseas Cypriots.

NEPOMAK has been running since 2002. We are an organisation run with young Cypriots in mind and are dedicated to their needs. We are run day-to-day by 150 young Cypriots across eight member branches worldwide, including the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Greece, Zimbabwe and Continental Europe.

Our activities

NEPOMAK is best defined by the activities we run, which are as diverse as the needs of the young Cypriots that make up our membership. At a global level our key activities are:

  • NEPOMAK Discover Cyprus Programme - awakening the passion for Cyprus in over 500 young Cypriots (and counting!)

  • NEPOMAK Young Community Leaders Programme - training future leaders and providing Cypriots with a recognised qualification from the Open University.

  • NEPOMAK Professionals - bringing together young professionals from across the world

  • Online learning tools - free and accessible language learning programmes and Encyclopaedia

  • Coordinated strategy for supporting Cyprus - promoting a just solution to the Cyprus issue.

  • Local events run throughout the year - bringing together young Cypriots across the globe and promoting Cypriot history and identity.

Our Aims

Our aims reflect the spirit of NEPOMAK. Through our activities we seek to advance these aims:

  • To project internationally the problems and just demands of the Cypriot people.

  • To reinforce the awareness of overseas Cypriot youth and generally all overseas Cypriots of their national identity.

  • To contribute to the acquaintance and interaction between Overseas Cypriot Youth and their origins in Cyprus and its Youth.

  • To assist in the resolution of problems that concern Overseas Cypriot Youth and to strengthen the creative achievement of their concerns and visions.

  • To promote the struggle of the people of Cyprus for a solution to the Cyprus problem.

  • To raise awareness of the cultural inheritance of Cyprus and humanitarian ideals worldwide.

  • To cultivate friendly relations between Cyprus and the country in which Cypriots may live, encouraging and strengthening cultural, financial and other relations.

Our Organisational Structure

The Presidium is our most senior body and consists of President, Vice-Presidents, General and Organising secretaries and the Treasurer. Together with 22 representatives from our eight member countries/regions, this forms the NEPOMAK Executive Council (EC). The Presidium is elected at a bi-annual congress by participating delegates.

Whilst NEPOMAK has its own working guidelines, we are a subsection of POMAK, the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots and are represented within POMAK's executive.
